General and Newbie Advice
"Don't be afraid of dying and loosing your eq, money and other nice items - dying is mistake, but you learn from mistakes. And also, you die mostly when explore some unknown area - don't be afraid of that. Ask for help from rangers and istar and from people who are not in Pk..."

"Leave SWIM and CLIMB turned off unless you specifically need to use the skill. Accidentally swimming into a river when you are low on Hit Points or Moves can be a Really Bad Thing. Keeping climb turned off prevents you from unwittingly taking on inclines that you lack the skills to scale (including some DeathTraps)--this is particularly useful advice to Trolls for obvious reasons. Not only does this keep you out of trouble, but it also makes you more aware of the terrain, which you can use to your advantage in PK. Along the same lines, if you must spam around in an unfamiliar zone, Riding will keep you out of DeathTraps."

Some instructions for Mume aliases:

First you set up targetting aliases like this:
>alias qblind alias q cast 'blind'
Then while you are playing, a cleric for example, you use the previous target aliases together with MUME's parameter variable &.
>qblind &.orc
Which has the same result as "alias q cast 'blind' &.orc", but is much faster to type. Then when you want to blind 3.orc, for example:
>q 3
This results in "cast 'blind' 3.orc".

"When grouping with people you don't know well, but they are experienced players, pay attention to what they are doing (i.e dismounting when they dismount etc) cause it really gets annoying when you have to repeat yourself alot of times :>"

"A long lost player who introduced me to Mume told me this: "Act in MUME as you would in real life."
Doing this will keep you out of most trouble, and you wil make friends. Atleast if you're a decent chap in rl...."

Character Stats
" Mage: Int/Wis/Per should be pretty high (especially Int and Wis), Per is important for spelldamage and TRACK depends on Per/Int also. Wil should be ok high too, Wil's spellsave etc. Clerics: Wis and Wil should be high, Int's important too. But Per is NOT important at all for clerics, if you don't want powertrack (casters usually get high % in track anyway when maxed due to the high INT they usually got). Dex/Con/Str on casters are usually pretty low since you put many of your stat-points on your mentals. But it feels like Dex is more important now when they've changed the new flee, and Con is for HPS."

Submitted by Ling

"Thieves: Dex and Per are most important for a thief, they affect sneak, backstab, dodge etc. To get ok pick, envenom, search or track you should get some Int too. And Wil of course, for spellsave... Nowadays backstab doesn't depend on Str anymore, so a bit lower Str and higher Con is good (since Con gives mps+hps, if you prac some warriorskills like endurance too, with abit higher Con)."

Submitted by Ling

"Warriors: Well, 2 kinds of warriors, defencewarrior or a warrior that does alot of damage. If you want a defence warrior, you should get high Dex and Per, enough str to wield a slasher (many defence warriors are slashers only, but they barely do any damage, they are just good for buffing, not killing :-) ) So to get concussion+slash so you do some damage too is a good idea... If you're gonna make a warrior that does some damage, max Str and Con, Wil's important for all warriors, and especially for Smiters/ Cleavers and for the ENDURANCE that is very important.  Put some pracs in Per too if you want a ok track, some warriors are hardcorewarriors and don't get track even"

Submitted by Ling

"When making a caster of any kind always keep your mentals high, wil doesn't always have to be THAT high. And per is enough with 12-14 - this will leave you beeing able to reroll between cleric and mage. That's of course just how I presonally like it."

Submitted by Lahnborg

Str: think about what weapon you want to use on your char find out what str is neede for it and choose str after that. Warriors need high Str.
Int: As a non caster Int is used for track/envenom/cure light/pick. For a caster Int is primary for mage offensive spells and max mana.
Wis: As non caster wis gives you better ability to mix herblores. As caster wis is primary for cleric spells, gives more max mana. For casters see Int but switch Mage/cleric.
Dex: Gives a base defence and is primary for thief skills. High dex also gives a higher flee success rate. Non thieves should not max dex, but raise it a bit. Dex also gives more moves.

Submitted by Filibert

Con: Gives you hp/moves. High con = high move/hp regen. High con is good on all chars, if you don't have to bob your caster often you'll have more mana for offensive spells.
Wil: Spell save and mana regen, important for all chars. But some like to put points into other skills and risk getting toasted by a few spells.
Per: Track is the key here, if you want track you need per. If you are a newbie or like to play as a hitter in a group per is nothing for you. Per gives a higher chance to succesfully cast on a target. Very importand for thiefs.

Groups and Grouping
"Since at these days soloing some classes is a bit harsh, I'd suggest group combos as warrior/cleric, defensewarrior/ offensewarrior or warrior/mage, where one buffs and another nukes;this goes for exping and pk, since when you are new to pk, you really hardly kill anyone solo. Also, exp comes faster this way. Don't exp (unless smobs) in groups 5+ nor pk - xp is bad and noone will want to fight you."

Submitted by Gilenhel

"When grouping, make sure you know the leader know what he is doing and know that you are fragile.. A leader who only need a parry split and not thinking of his groupmembers safety is not to be trusted. If you're not a troll and grouping with trolls, be careful and do not follow your troll leader into Grinder... It hurts ;-)"

Player Killing
"When you have been pking for a while don't be afraid of new areas - if you enter more unknown terrain you will (hopefully) have more fun. And do NOT be afraid of dying. Also, if/when you enter an unknown area try to keep cool, as soon as you  panic you're most likely to die."

Submitted by Lahnborg

"Storeporting does not have to be wimpy!, storeporting always whenever there is a risk of dying is wimpy, but having a teleport stored to survive vs hugegroups traps etc is ok!"

Submitted by Cagim

"Focus on killing, not on fleeing... 2 stored fballs+stored bolt can do miracles with bns, no need to store port instead... if you know that your opponent is known solo pker and see that he's offering you a 1vs1 fight, go for it, although you may die- you might actually kill your enemy and have the best fight in your mume career."

Submitted by Prist

"When you chase someone, always try to predict the next move of your enemy. Try to think where will he run to seek cover, how many moves does he has, how much mana left and so on... Having characters of different races and clases is very helpfull, because then you know their weak and strong sides."

Submitted by Ostu

"When you need to flee from a hugegroup- stay away from roads, swim and climb a lot, stay away from bottlenecks and don't panic... if you need moves, try to rest in an open area with a lot of nontracking mobs, Trollshaws for example- it is hard to track there and will take a lot of time so you'll have plenty of time to rest... don't rest in closable area with some shittymobs like caravanserai- if there's a portalling bn and 2-3 trolls on, you're toast..."

Submitted by Prist

"If you'r fighting someone and they flee from you, dont follow it 1 room and track. Spam to where it most likely went. If you're fighting a dwarf at neni and he flees, spam some w and track, dont slowtrack it allover arda!"

Submited by Mumma

"Don't kill linkless, for the fairness of each player. But, If you see someone who's killing linkless don't try to protect/warn/ follow the action - advice him/her not to proceed via tells. When/if the linkless victim die don't guard the corpse, don't yell to the other side that he's unlooted - if you do protect the linkless enemy in any way because this is against MUME rules. Also, people can be linkless even if they don't have a(Linkless)-flag. And some people to drop link to avoid beeing killed - these should of course be killed. So..be careful."

Equipment
"If you kill anyone with good eq which you dont need, dont hoard it or trade (mostly waste of time) just give it to other swho need it - you will feel much better and sometimes you can count on fast re-eq next time when you die."

Submitted by Morholth

"Don't keep the other sides receipts - the last thing we need is mithril equipment on all the players. Make sure you burn all eq you have spare. Or give to some Hungry Troll who can eat it :> "

Mapping
"How to learn them bloody areas! Some areas are harder than others to learn, Ie OiE, Moria, Sewers etc are harder to map than Eregion or abr. But the easiest way is to level up a thief to decent high level (around lv20) and get good sneak/hide and high con for moveregen/high hps. Then u get some paper and a pen and start writing down everything hard u notice in the area you are mapping. The hardest place to map is prob. Moria since it's huge. If you have plans on mapping moria I suggest as an orcshaman or an orcthief since they can see in dark in that way you can see exits. After you have mapped an area run there once in a while not to forget it, after sometime you will know it for a lifetime!"

Black Númenóreans
"Since you little freaks don't know how to speak the orkish language right off the Island, heres a way to learn ultra quick without bothering anyone (like me). Run up to Dark Tower, chances are you'll need to go there for equipment anyway. Head to the Quarters (its the room with Karash the Captain of the Tower). Then just spam 'offer', he'll just sit there saying orkish gibberish until you reach the higher numbers in orkish."

Submitted by Vecna

"Dont try to solo Sage, it costs you around a million exp and a hellofalot of age. If you hear someone tell you it can be done, i have done it etc, dont listen to them. BN's CAN NOT solo Sage... Sage just fireballed me from high hurt to incap, and no, im not bitter."

Submitted by Casque

"Use the right language if you are going to talk/narrate to warriors and trolls. In most cases their low int/wis prevent them from understand you when talking/narrating in an other language than their own."

Fast levels between 16 to 25. Doent matter what kind of a caster you are, mage or cleric you may always reprac. All you need is max charm, max blind, some missile skill and maybe a little command also. The best charmie for that as much as i have tested is Mother eagle. They are usually with eaglets and has decent willpower so might be hard to charm. Once u have a perfect charmie order her to hit targets, blind mobs and shoot them dead. With such tactics i quarantee you 300k or more quality soloexp, that should take you to level 25 pretty fast.

Submitted by Haazheel

"Dont narrate or tell anyone to 'gimme this' or 'xp me' when you are a lowbie bn. Be patient and ask some friend or someone you know are nice assist you in getting eq or tell you where to find it. Myself I allways give away what I dont need and I DO remember who been nice, not only to me but in general, and who did not. Hoarding as a bn is stupid..."

Trolls
"For a troll MPS are more important than HPS. Conserve your mps and always have a draught or 2 on ya. IF you find a situation where you think you can make it to a nice dark place but are not for sure, pick a closer less secure dark area. Yes you may die, but you wont lose all your levels. If that area is fleeable, cha mood berserk and expect to die.:

Submitted by Echo

"I really love mapping with an olog. You no longer have to really concern yourself with mobs. By the time your lvl 25 troll there are VERY few wandering mobs that are scary. Just make sure and note all the dark areas you pass and be ready to sit in a clump of trees at 2 AM becuase you dont know how/if you can get back to dark."

Submitted by Echo

"Warrens is not Bree. If you are fleeing from pukes dont feel safe just because you made it inside sodmat. Get in deep (Grinder/Crusher)if you are really beat down. Pukes can enter and finish you off really easy if you dont get clear inside. This is not foolproof. Pukes can wack you at grinder if they got enough balls to do it, if you meet this situation, lets hope you got some mps to move yer arse around warrens and regen some hps."

Submitted by Echo

"Dont piss off darkies. As a puke you can yell and scream as much as you like about any topic. Darkies have full reign to kill you and nobody will bat an eyelash. Don't make enemies, make friends. Darkies in general will go further and work harder to help you than any white meat elf."

Submitted by Echo

"If by some act of god you are a newbie and find yourself with the Huge Shovel 2000 dont just spam to ford with a buddy and dig a hole. Its a great way to suicide. Learn how to use it before you take off fer Bree."

Submitted by Echo

"Never ever go to an area that you do not know VERY well if it's within 3-4 ticks of sunup. If you're mapping with a troll, which, insanely enough, I have done before, make sure to find a dark spot in the area 4-5 ticks before sunup and don't stray too far in mapping that you'll forget where it was."

Submitted by Plato

"Never ever rest for the day in a room that has a fleeable sun room, even if there's a door (i.e. Dark Tower room) this is one of the easiest ways to sunrip your troll, or die to pk because you can't flee from those 7 dwarves you're buffing. IF you wind up in a situation where you absolutely have to stay with a sun fleeable CHA MOOD BERSERK until sundown."

Submitted by Plato

If you're new to troll you MUST learn your sunup and sundown times, easily accessed from 'help month', and CHECK TIME OFTEN, you can lose track of it very easily. Make sure that you have good endur and good wilderness, and try hard to get an fgc, because Troll moves are horrible, and if you don't have this stuff you're going to get suntrapped, or sundead.

Submitted by Plato

"As a Troll or an Orc, do NOT expect or demand bn's to come running when ever you need a cure or bob. As the enemy tend to target on just bns the person you are yelling at are most likely having his/her hands full himself/herself. Most bns gladly bob and cure when they can and if they not in trouble themself."

Submitted by Sėn

"NEVER EVER EVER EVER follow someone that you don't know with anything higher than a level 10 troll. NEVER trust orcs to stay and defend you if you're going to raid the western zones, they flee at the first inkling of danger and leave the trolls hung to dry (orcs are evil bastards that only care about themselves, i guess they liketo roleplay), make sure that you bring plenty of trolls if you're going west."

Submitted by Plato

"As a troll, you are going to sundie. There is no ifs or buts about it. If you can't handle that fact, you can't handle trolls. Possibly."

Submitted by Temegl

"Go with your gut, if you start to feel your stomach wrenching somewhere, be prepared to run to a dark place and just sit thier. It's not much fun to be sitting moors and go 'I reckon thiers a few hundred pu.. *Overkiller 1024*+100 have arrived.'

Submitted by Temegl

"The key to playing a troll succesfully, even if things seem to go wrong: NEVER PANIC. I sundied my level 61 troll because of panic, all other sundeaths are either because of lack of knowledge/skills or panic. So if you flee in fornost during day, or whatever nasty thing happens, don't panic, try to find a dark place fast or go berserk and mobdie in time. Also when you are pking out west and will not reach a dark spot in time, just cha wimpy 0, eventually go berserk and just pkdie. You loose 550k at my old level, but better that then loosing 55M xp."

Submitted by Devastator

"Never have climb on in necro zone as troll unless u really really wanna be able to climb out."
